It truly doesn’t matter if this is the first time you have put your ideas down on paper, we want to hear from you, the true practitioner of martial arts. MAMA embraces all styles and showcases the best each style has to offer.

Where to start?

• Choose your topic.
• Take out a pen and paper and write down your ideas, write everything you know, the how, the theory and the practical. Don’t think about it, just get it out and put it down on paper.
• Now that you have brain dumped, take another sheet of paper and group those ideas together.
• Next add the details to flesh out your ideas: including – references, quotes, statistics etc.

Writing Dos & Don’t

• Don’t be afraid to put your ideas on paper – our chief editor will ensure that your story makes sense and is easy to read.  If there are any issues, we will contact you for clarification before your article goes to print.
• Do tell it as if you were explaining to a student, a training partner or a friend. In easy-to-follow conversational English.  KIS – Keep it simple.
• Don’t be derogative or insulting to other styles, practitioners, or instructors, it is okay to disagree, just do so with honour.
• Do double check on the correct spelling of techniques, kata names, instructor names.
• Ensure that you have permission from the people in any photographs that you wish to submit along with your article.
• Do not use photos that are under copyright without permission.
• Don’t plagiarise – all articles will go through a plagiarism checker before being published.  If you use quotes and reference material created by others, please ensure that you reference them and even add a list of suggested items to read at the end of your article for people to follow up on.
• Do remember to add your club details and contact information.

Finally, have fun with the process.  You know something wonderful and this is your opportunity to share it with the world and promote the style and practises that you love.
